The Brief

The Suter Art Gallery redevelopment involved upgrading one of New Zealand’s oldest public art galleries, creating modern exhibition and community spaces while respecting the heritage character of the building.

Interior systems needed to support gallery functionality, visitor movement, and acoustic performance across a range of public and exhibition environments. The fitout also required finishes that aligned with the architectural vision and cultural significance of the project.

Our Approach

Working alongside the main contractor and project team, Corva delivered multiple interior systems throughout the redevelopment. This included installation of glazed aluminium framed partitions and doors, suspended ceiling systems, and plasterboard linings.

Acoustic timber panel linings were integrated into key spaces to improve sound performance while contributing warmth and texture to the interior environment. Fire-rated wall systems were also installed to support compliance and long-term building performance.

The combination of glazing, timber detailing, and ceiling systems helped create a balance between functionality, durability, and architectural character across the gallery.

The Result

The completed gallery provides Nelson with a modern cultural facility that supports exhibitions, events, education, and community use. The interior systems contribute to spaces that are visually refined while maintaining the practical performance required within a public environment.

As part of an award-winning redevelopment project, the fitout works help support the gallery’s ongoing role as a key arts and cultural destination within the region.
